Our Green Statement

At Moorside Farm, we are committed to fostering an environmentally conscious and sustainable business that leaves a positive impact on our planet.

Our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint is evident in various aspects of our operations:

  1. Reducing Chemical Usage: We prioritise the health of our ecosystem by minimising the use of chemicals, especially in our cleaning products.
  2. Native Tree Plantation: Taking a proactive stance, we have planted 1.5 acres of native trees, contributing to the preservation and restoration of our local environment in Grassington. This will contribute to the wildlife corridor within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
  3. Supporting Local Trades: By sourcing local tradespeople, we not only invest in our community but also reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
  4. Reuse of Materials: Whenever possible, we reuse renovation materials, emphasising sustainability in our building practices.
  5. Wildlife-Friendly Initiatives: Our commitment extends to the local wildlife, as seen in our bird nesting boxes, maintenance of farm land for ground-nesting birds, and the provision of a safe space for birds, plants, and animals.
  6. Green Energy Usage: Our barn conversion (next door to the holiday cottage), where our business operates, is powered by solar panels and air source technology, ensuring that our holiday cottage, towels, and administrative tasks are all powered by green energy.
  7. Waste Management: We actively promote recycling by providing bins for our guests, composting organic waste, and utilising the resulting compost in our gardens.
  8. Home-grown Produce: We take pride in growing our own vegetables and fruits, fostering a sustainable food source and supporting local biodiversity.
  9. Insect-Friendly Features: Our insect hotel, constructed from recycled materials, provides a welcoming habitat for beneficial insects.
  10. Wildlife Promotion: Through the strategic planting of flowers and promotion of nature-related attractions, we create an environment that encourages wildlife to thrive.
  11. Educational Initiatives: We strive to enhance our understanding of local flora and fauna through expert talks and continuous learning. We share this knowledge with our guests through nature spotter books.
  12. Active Transport Promotion: Encouraging eco-friendly transportation, we provide secure cycle storage, maps, and guides for cycling and walking. Guests are also encouraged to use public transport with access to a nearby bus stop.
  13. Energy-Efficient Infrastructure: Our holiday cottage is equipped with LED lighting, dual flush toilets, aerated shower heads, and enhanced insulation, all contributing to energy efficiency.
  14. Renewable Energy Tariff: We support the use of renewable energy sources through our adoption of a renewable energy tariff.

Remember, even small actions collectively make a significant impact. Encouraging others to adopt environmentally friendly practices can create a ripple effect, contributing to the overall well-being of our planet.

“As custodians of this land, we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainable practices, continuously exploring new ways to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to the well-being of our community and the planet at large. In 2024 we would like to install a EVCP (Electric Vehicle Charging Point) and look into planting more native trees at Moorside Farm”
